Developmentally Appropriate Practices DAP

This space is created taking into account the theory exposed by Marjorie J. Kostelnik to guide future teachers design the best curriculum for young children (3-8 years). Here, teaching and learning processes are supported by multiple developmental domains, individual differences, and social and cultural diversity which considerate all aspects of classroom life, like the roles of students, teachers and parents, the physical and social environments and more to promote good practices and activities in the educational progression of our kids.
DAP is AGE appropriate

about what children can do
depending on their ages
so, we should create activities:

-Safe
-Achievable
-Challenging

Each child is a UNIQUE person with individual

Remember: Individualities must be considered when we plan, design and implement activities

It is necessary to look at children and families within the context to create meaningful and supporting early childhood programs.

It would be adviseable to start by defining what childhood development is so that , the teaching process is based on a better way.Taking the words of Fabes and Lynn (2009) "child development involves changes in physical, social, emotional and intellectual functioning over time" (p.4). Thus, after defining all the terms previously mentioned you can think of activities that either combine all the aspect already mentioned or some classes which try to combine all of them. I suggest to define all the aspects that the child develops and give examples of activities that can be done in the classroom to empower the development implicitly. Then, for instance in a class were the students are preparing their backpags to travel, you can ask them to bring something they will take with them, you make groups and tell them to prepare the back pag with the objects. In this case, they are interacting implicitly and they will get familiar with the concept of respecting the turn of their partner when putting things in the suitcase. This is social ionteraction in a real environment. Therefore, this type of activities are not only focused on the travelling vocabulary, but they also bring real and significant knowledge to the class and the students.
